Service Description: Valleys (areas that are lower than their neighbors) are extracted from a Digital Elevation Model by finding the mean elevation within a certain radius, then subtracting the actual elevation from the mean. We accommodate the diversity of valley shapes and sizes by sampling the landscape at seven scales: 1, 2, 4, 7, 11, 16, and 22 km radius. The seven models are combined, and locations where at least four models occur together are flagged as valleys.
